The Story of Olive and Peach


After having been out of touch for five years Katie and Aleishall met again on a serendipitous election day 2004, on the second floor of Henri Bendel in New York City. Neither of them had ever been in the department store before making the happenstance reunion all the more surprising.

After immediately setting a date to see each other again, their friendship picked up where it had left off as if nothing had changed. Oh, but things had… Aleishall had been to four different Universities since leaving Miami of Ohio where they first met. From there she went on to school in Italy, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Austria and then back to New York. Aleishall had studied architecture, philosophy, cooking, become a certified Yoga teacher and graduated from the New School University with a degree in creative writing. At the same time Katie had taken in a wide range of classes from the chemistry of cooking and women’s studies to spending a semester abroad in Florence and finally returning to graduate with a degree in English and Journalism from Miami University of Ohio. She had worked as an intern for the West Virginia Senator J. Rockefeller, and at a wine and coffee shop. She had spent a summer immersed in life as a fishmonger on Long Island, waited tables… Oh, and a month ago to the day they ran into each other, she had married Billy Joel.

After exchanging stories of travels, relationships, jobs and friends Aleishall and Katie settled on a subject they had always shared a passion for- food. They began discussing cookbooks, trading recipes, and sharing restaurant recommendations. Then they started cooking together. They meticulously planned out and strategized for fantastic meals, and there in the kitchen is where real magic started to happen. They found a rhythm with each other that made the preparation fun and the outcome exquisitely good. From the shopping for ingredients to the actually chopping, sautéing, flipping and plating they knew that Epicurus himself must have orchestrated their reunion.

And this is how we got here. We wanted to share with all of you our passion for the culinary arts as well as our appreciation for the simple nourishment that makes up a daily meal. We have a desire to spread a message of conscious consumption while giving thanks and enjoying each bite that we are so blessed to have. We, ourselves strive to consume a diet that is both healthy and pleasing to the taste buds, while taking into consideration where every ingredient comes from.

After discussing different ideas on how to share our passion with others, we came up with this website, in hopes of reaching a more diverse audience. It is our intention to be appealing to everyone and anyone who enjoys the consumption of food and wants to become perhaps just a little bit more aware of how the age-old process works. We hope you enjoy and come back again and again to see what new tasty things we have discovered. Thank you for your support.
